The problem
Individuals with limited lower-body strength often struggle to transition from sitting to standing, relying on caregivers or unstable support, which reduces independence and increases risk of injury. Existing mobility aids provide passive support but fail to actively assist this critical movement, leaving a gap between user capability and functional independence. There is a need for a solution that safely supports and augments sit-to-stand motion while preserving user autonomy, confidence, and dignity.
I led a team of six Mechanical Engineers throughout the product’s design and full assembly, providing both technical direction and project oversight. I strategically delegated weekly tasks to leverage each team member’s strengths while also setting assignments that supported their professional growth. In addition to coordinating the team’s workflow, I ensured that design decisions aligned with project requirements, managed timelines to keep progress on track, and oversaw the integration of subsystems into a cohesive final assembly
